Aston Villa fans took to Twitter to criticise midfielder Conor Hourihane for his performance in their team’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Friday night.
The Republic of Ireland international was given the nod to start in central midfield alongside Glenn Whelan for Steve Bruce’s promotion hopefuls.
It was his 18th start in the 20 league matches played by Villa this season, but Hourihane was hauled off along with Josh Onomah after 65 minutes with their side a goal down to Pontus Jansson’s first-half header.
Villa were rewarded as substitutes Jack Grealish and Henri Lansbury combined for the former Nottingham Forest man to drive in the equaliser and secure a share of the spoils.
The Villa faithful were furious at the performance of Hourihane, complaining that he made no impact and even questioning his appetite for the battle as the Championship promotion race hots up.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets:
Hopefully that’s Jack and Lansbury in the side for a while. Fed up of seeing Onomah and Hourihane bottle absolutely everything. Hourihane is turning into Westwood it’s scary…

I think Hourihane and Onomah need to be dropped. Onomah touch and passing was woeful and Hourihane seems to be off the pace always chasing the game. Lansbury and Grealish time to shine. #avfc

Poor first half but subs changed the game in the second and earned us the point – would drop Hourihane against Millwall after that. On the back of 3 wins it’s a point gained for me regardless of what Cardiff are doing, keep chipping away and we’ll be alright #AVFC

Onomah had a terrible game tonight, didn’t look happy coming off & looked like he walked off down tunnel, if you’ve been playing well & are taken off you may have a right to be pissed off but not after that performance. Hourihane sat on bench & supported the team. #avfc #utv

I thought we’d lose tonight so overall I’m happy with the draw. Glenn Whelan gets a lot of stick, including from me, but he’s pulling his weight a lot more than what Conor Hourihane currently is!!! Onwards! Up the Villa! #AVFC #UTV #VTID

Delighted for Lansbury, doing what Hourihane should be doing. Always believed there was a player in there somewhere and hopefully he’ll kick on now #avfc

Hourihane applauding that goal with the lack of enthusiasm of a man who knows it puts his place under threat #avfc

Snodgrass, terrible. Davis, terrible. Onomah, terrible. Hourihane, terrible. Samba, terrible. A dreadful day for Villa. Turning this off before it gets any worse. #avfc
