Aston Villa have registered an interest in signing Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic ahead of the January transfer window, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that Villa and Premier League side Brighton are keen on signing the 21-year-old when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year.

It is understood that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is currently allowing the Serbia international to leave on loan due to his lack of first-team action at Anfield.

The report details that Turkish side Galatasaray wanted to land the young central midfielder, but that the Reds would prefer him to stay in England if he departs on a temporary basis.

Grujic has made just 14 senior appearances for Liverpool since he joined from Red Star Belgrade in January 2016 for just £5.1million.

Good move for Villa?

Villa could do with some January reinforcements to get over the line for promotion and Grujic is certainly a quality player that could thrive in the Championship.

However, the Midlands giants do already have an overload of midfielder in the shape of Glenn Whelan, Conor Hourihane, Josh Onomah, Birkir Bjarnason, Henri Lansbury??Steve Bruce should really prioritise a new attacker for the squad, but it makes sense to be interested in Grujic if he becomes available.

The Serbian is a well rounded central midfielder that has an eye for goal and is a developing talent, but is yet to really get the chance to prove himself at Liverpool.

Likely to happen?

It seems like Villa would have a chance of landing Grujic in January as they could give him game time and the opportunity to improve.

However, competition from top-flight club Brighton could prove difficult to battle with and there is no certainty that Klopp will sanction the midfielder’s exit.
