Tottenham are interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia following his impressive performance out on loan at Valencia this season, according to Sky Sports.

The news outlet claims that Spurs scouts have been watching the 24-year-old this campaign as he thrives during his loan spell at La Liga club Valencia.

It is understood that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are preparing for life without Mousa Dembele and are eyeing Kondogbia as a long-term replacement.

The report details that Spurs have been admirers of the French midfielder for the past couple of seasons and he has been lighting up La Liga with his powerhouse displays in the centre of the park.

Dembele is regarded as a key midfielder in the current Spurs squad, but the 30-year-old has struggled with regular injuries during his career and he is entering the final 18 months of his contract.

Good move for Spurs?

Dembele is undoubtedly one of the most talented players in the Spurs squad and the central midfielder is always highly spoken about by his teammates.

It will be incredibly hard for Pochettino to find someone as strong and agile as him moving forward, when his injuries do catch up with him.

However, Kondogbia is currently showing in Spain he could fit the ball and has rediscovered his best form out on loan with Valencia.

The five-timed capped France international is similar in stature in the middle of the park and also is adding goals to his game from central midfield, scoring three times in 12 games this season.

Likely to happen?

Spurs scouts are already thinking ahead to a midfield powerhouse to replace key figure Dembele and it would be no surprise to see a move for Kondogia.

However, there could be complications over the deal as his parent club Inter Milan have sent him out on a season-long loan to Valencia.

The Spanish club also believe they have the first right to buy Kondogbia at the end of the campaign and his impressive form there suggests he may want to stay with Valencia.
