Tottenham are keen on signing youngster Matteo Guendouzi from FC Lorient, according to Sky Sports.

The popular news outlet claims that Spurs and Premier League rivals Manchester City are both keen on the 18-year-old midfielder.

It is understood that both teams have closely monitored the France Under-20 international, who is currently playing in Ligue 2.

The report details that Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is on the search for a long-term successor to key midfielder Mousa Dembele, with Valencia’s Geoffrey Kondogbia previously mentioned as a target.

Guendouzi is currently impressing in France’s second-tier of football and has established himself as a key first teamer at Lorient.

Good move for Spurs?

Guendouzi is quickly becoming one of the best upcoming talents in French football and is already a senior player at the age of 18.

The defensive midfielder is a destroyer that usually operates in front of the back four and helps break up play.

He has established himself as an important player for Lorient, who sit third in the Ligue 2 table.

Spurs should rightly always be on the search for the next rising star and Guendouzi looks like a player that could adapt to the Premier League with his physicality.

Pochettino should certainly consdier bringing him to England, but key man Dembele should still have a good number of years in the heart of Spurs’ midfield if he remains injury free.

Spurs certainly have shown their desire to buy upcoming talents in recent years and are not afraid to put their trust in teenagers.

Guendouzi is also only under contract with Lorient until 2019 and that could play a big part in his future.

However, they are yet to make any official approaches and there is also the added competition of rivals Manchester City to fend off.
