Everton keen on CL striker Tosun

|

Everton are interested in signing Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun in January, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Toffees have registered an interest in landing the 26-year-old in the New Year.

It is understood that manager Sam Allardyce wants a shake-up of his strike force at Goodison Park and is keen to add a new centre-forward when the transfer window re-opens.

The report details that Turkish giants Besiktas want £20million for Tosun as he has been key in helping them reach the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will face Bayern Munich.

The Turkey international has been in great touch in front of goal this campaign, scoring 13 goals in 23 games across all competitions.

Good move for Everton?

Tosun would be a brilliant signing for Everton and just what the Merseyside club need in their squad.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has provided a good option in attack, but Everton are crying out for a new number nine that can be prolific in front of goal.

Besiktas’ talisman has been one of the hottest strikers in Europe this season and his tally of four goals in the Champions League group stages is impressive.

Tosun has good pace and power to his game, while £20million could turn out to be a bargain signing given the current state of the transfer market.

His lack of Premier League experience would be the only reservation, but he has netted 63 goals in 141 games for Besiktas to highlight his goalscoring credentials.

Likely to happen?

Everton are certainly pursuing a new striker in January and the £20million price tag on Tosun is well within their reach.

However, it could be difficult trying to convince the player ditch Champions League football for a mid-table side in the Premier League as it stands.

Allardyce also wants a forward that could make an immediate impact at the club and there would be an element in risk in signing Tosun.
