Everton are in the race to sign striker Karl Toko Ekambi from French top-flight club Angers, according to France Football.

The news outlet claims that the Toffees are joined by Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and Burnley in the hunt for the Ligue 1 ace.

It is understood that the English trio are keen on the 25-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.

The report details that the Cameron international is under contract with relegation threatened Angers until 2020 and that the club rejected an offer from Brighton in the summer of him.

Ekambi has been in good form so far this season in front of goal with nine goals and three assists for Angers, who are 19th-placed in the French league.

Good move for Everton?

Everton certainly need to sign a striker in January and it is the main position that manager Sam Allardyce needs to strengthen.

Ekambi is an exciting upcoming talent that has only made 49 top-flight league appearances in France, scoring 16 goals in return.

The pacy striker has impressed so far this year in a struggling team, but there is no guarantee he could replicate his goalscoring form at Goodison Park.

Everton need to bring in a proven Premier League goalscorer to bolster their frontline and Ekambi would be too much of a gamble.

Likely to happen?

Everton are clearly in the market in January to bring in a new centre-forward and Ekambi has emerged on their radar.

However, they are in a three-way battle to sign the striker and will face tough competition to bring him to Merseyside.

Angers rejected a summer approach from Brighton and will surely be reluctant to lose their star player amid a relegation battle.
