Tottenham Hotspur have entered the hunt for Ajax starlet David Neres who has been dubbed ‘little Neymar’ in his native Brazil, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian football news outlet claim that AC Milan are leading the chase for the winger, with Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester United and Juventus also interested.

Neres, 20, has already been compared to the world’s most expensive player, Neymar, back home in Brazil, and he is extremely highly-rated there.

It is said that Milan have been scouting Neres closely this year, but are aware that they will be faced with fierce competition for the young winger.

Calciomercato report that Ajax have no intention of selling Neres in January, and already rate him at around £22million.

Good move for Tottenham Hotspur?

If the hype is to be believed, then Neres could go on to become a star.

The young winger has already bagged 8 goals and laid on 11 assists in the Eredivisie this season, and has consistently impressed since his £10million transfer from Sao Paulo last January.

While comparisons to Neymar may be premature, they just show how highly-rated Neres is in Brazil, and he is living up to that so far in Europe.

If Spurs were able to beat the competition and sign Neres, Mauricio Pochettino could have another young gem to work with at a club already laden with young stars.

Likely to happen?

If Neres continues to play like this for Ajax, he won’t spend much longer in the Eredivisie.

With so many big clubs already keeping tabs on him, a move to a bigger team looks likely in the near future.

It is not known how serious Spurs are about a move for Neres, but if they do make an approach they will have to submit a big offer to beat off the competition.

With so much financial might around Europe, and particularly in the Premier League, Spurs will have a massive fight on their hands to complete this one.
