Brendan Rodgers has claimed in the Scottish Daily Mail that Premier League sides have tabled offers to persuade him to move back to England.

But the northern Irishman has rebuffed interest from south of the border and insisted he is committed to Celtic and not hankering after a return to the world’s most popular league.

Rodgers signed a new four-year Celtic contract in April but the Mail report there has been strong interest from his former club Swansea and West Ham before they recently appointed David Moyes.

Speaking to the Mail, Rodgers said: “Yes, I have been aware of possibilities, as have the club, but it’s not on my radar at all. The (English) Premier League is brilliant. I loved it there. I worked with two great clubs. This is not to say I won’t go back there one day, but there’s not even a notion that I’m thinking of it (at the moment).

“I might get more money elsewhere but what I’ve learnt is that happiness is the most important thing. As long as I feel that way, then I’m really happy to be here.

“My ambition is for Celtic. I’m not worried about myself and my own ambition. I want to sustain the level of success for as long as I can.”

OPINION

Rodgers’ reputation has been enhanced by his spell in Scotland, where he recently secured his fourth trophy in one-and-a-half seasons. He has always been an ambitious fellow, and it would be little surprise if he quit Celtic next summer. However, for the Irishman to get a plum Premier League job, he is going to need to do more than hoover up domestic trophies. It is Celtic will need to make an extended Europa League run – possibly all the way to the final – for the ex-Liverpool boss to get another top gig in England.
