Celtic will complete the signing of St. Mirren midfielder Lewis Morgan in the coming days but the 21-year-old will return to the Paisley club for the rest of the season in a two-pronged deal, according to the Herald.

The Hoops will reportedly pay £300,000 plus add-ons for the midfield wonderkid, who has been identified as one of Scotland’s best young talents, but will allow him to stay and aid St. Mirren’s Championship promotion push.

The defending champions have long been linked with a move for the talented Morgan, who had been the subject of interest from several English clubs including Preston and Nottingham Forest.

Rangers were also said to be interested in Morgan, but the youngster has reportedly identified Brendan Rodgers as the man to progress his career, with a deal now all but sealed to take him to Parkhead.

RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper is also said to be close to joining the club, and will undergo a medical today (Wednesday).

Good move for Celtic?

Morgan has emerged as the pre-eminent talent in the Championship this year, with six goals and five assists in 17 appearances.

The versatile midfielder can play in the middle of the park or on the wings, and has attracted a lot of interest from south of the border with his displays.

The 21-year-old has reportedly singled out Brendan Rodgers as the reason for his desire to join Celtic, and it is quite clear why.

Rodgers’ work with players such as Moussa Dembele, Kieran Tierney and Patrick Roberts in his time at Celtic has shown his ability to develop young players, and Morgan is the next in line to flourish at Parkhead.

Likely to happen?

The Herald seem pretty confident that Celtic have all but completed this deal for Morgan.

The Hoops would seem the obvious choice for a young player in Scotland, and a loan back deal would seem to make sense.

The touted fee would seem to be in the right ballpark, and this is one that looks like it could indeed be close.
