Tottenham are keeping close tabs on Lille midfield enforcer Yves Bissouma, according to a Sky Sports journalist.

Lyall Thomas, who is an assistant news editor at Sky Sports News, claimed on his personal Twitter account and on West London Sport’s website that the north Londoners are monitoring Bissouma, 21, as a potential long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele.

It is reported that Spurs’ scouts are keeping a close watch over 12-times Mali international Bissouma, who was the subject of an enquiry from Inter Milan in the summer.

Lyall reports that Tottenham are also keeping tabs on Valencia central midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, who is on loan from Inter.

Good move for Tottenham?

Given Dembele’s fitness issues, Tottenham need a long-term replacement and it is easy to see why Bissouma is on their radar. He is a midfield monster who has the power and technique to thrive in the Premier League battleground. He is also in playing well in a top league, and has the potential to walk straight into Spurs’ side if he continues to develop. The pursuit of Bissouma has echoes of the signing of Davinson Sanchez from Ajax over the summer. The Colombia international became the club-record signing at the same age as the Malian, who would be a similarly smart acquisition.

Likely to happen?

Given that the rising star of French football is out of contract in the summer of 2019, Lille are vulnerable to losing him in one of the next two windows. Spurs have been reluctant in recent years to sanction January signings and, given the cost of signing Bissouma, it is more likely to be in the summer. Don’t rule it out happening if he doesn’t extend his Lille deal.
