Graham Roberts raved about Tottenham playmaker Dele Alli after he starred in an emphatic 5-2 win over Southampton on Boxing Day.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder helped Spurs cruise to three Premier League points at Wembley as they temporarily move back into the top four of the table.

Harry Kane grabbed the attention for his stunning hat-trick, which saw him overtake Alan Shearer’s record of the most Premier League goals in a calendar year.

The centre-forward finished 2017 with 39 league goals and is regarded as the talisman for the north London club.

However, creative force Alli also turned in a brilliant display by scoring one and assisting two more during the victory against the Saints.

Spurs legend Roberts decided to praise the youngster on social media after the result and the England international has now been directly involved in five goals during his last two games.

“Another fantastic performance from Dele Alli,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account

OPINION

Alli has certainly been inconsistent so far this campaign, but appears to have turned a corner in recent weeks as he starts to rip apart defences. The goal threat is always going to have dry spells at his young age and has needed a wake-up call to help him return to his best. He was certainly at the peak of his powers as he annihilated the Saints backline, while teammate Heung-Min Son was another unsung performer as Kane rightly stole the show. Alli has now chipped in with eight goals and 10 assists across all competitions this season despite not looking at his best, which suggests what an incredible talent he is.
