Tottenham Hotspur have added former England defender Chris Powell onto their scouting staff, according to the Daily Mail.

Powell, 48, has been out of a job since leaving his post as assistant manager of Derby County in March of this year, and has vast experience in the English game.

He will join Spurs scouting team on an ad-hoc basis, watching games across the county in order to unearth the next big talents for Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy.

The highly-respected Powell has been manager of Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic, who he led to promotion from League One, and has served in a coaching role at Leicester City.

OPINION

Not only does Powell bring vast experience to the Spurs scouting team, he bring experience at many levels of the English game. As evidenced by the rise of players such as Jamie Vardy and Michail Antonio, there are gems to be discovered on all levels of the English footballing pyramid. Powell’s experience as a coach will help him and the rest of the scouting team no end, and that is something that Mauricio Pochettino probably recognises. Spurs already have a world-class youth set-up, and Pochettino will be hoping that Powell’s experience can add to that even further.
