Tottenham are ready to loan out Marcus Edwards in the January transfer window after a Mauricio Pochettino U-turn, according to Football London.

The Trinity Mirror site claim that the attacking midfielder, 18, could get a taste of first team football in the second half of the campaign after interest in him was rejected by Spurs in “recent transfer windows”.

Football London report that Tottenham manager Pochettino has shown that he’s changed his thinking with temporary departures for talented young players if they have no chance of first team football in the short term.

The two main examples of this are attacking midfielder Josh Onomah, who is on a season-long loan at Aston Villa, and centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers, who is on loan at Sheffield United.

Edwards is regarded as one of the brightest products to have emerged from the productive Tottenham academy for years, but he is yet to properly break into the first team picture.

The manager’s thoughts on the wide man in his new book Brave New World: Inside Pochettino’s Spurs provides fascinating insight as he explained how the youngster has behavioural issues and problems with dealing with authority.

OPINION

Of all the Pochettino revelations from his new book, none alarmed supporters more than the bombshell that the gifted Edwards has serious issues to overcome. The manager’s admission that it would have been “impossible” for the the left-footed dribbler to have made it in times gone by is a stunning one, and makes a mockery of his own comparisons to Lionel Messi 12 months ago, which the Argentine now admits he regrets. Supporters urging the manager to fast-track Edwards into the first team have had to think again. There is a sense that the youngster would benefit from playing against senior pros week in, week out, rather than just running amok at Under-23s level, as he is at the moment. Spurs clearly feel Edwards needs guidance and close attention, but a loan spell among grizzled pros could be the making of him,
