Manchester United have made a formal move for MLS sensation Alphonso Davies, according to a reliable journalist.

Canadian TV correspondent Adam Cook reported on his personal Twitter account on Saturday that United have invited the Canada international to train with the club next month.

Cook explained that Davies, 17, is waiting for the clearance and approval of his employers at Vancouver Whitecaps before heading to Old Trafford.

Ghana-born Davies already has five full international caps in addition to accumulating 48 appearances for Whitecaps in all competitions.

He is contracted to Whitecaps until December of next year.

OPINION

Davies is the rising star not only of Canadian football, but across north America. Astonishingly, he made his full international debut aged 16 and already has 34 MLS appearances to his name after proving far to good in age-group football. In the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Davies took home the Best Young Player, Golden Boot, and Best XI honours after becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of both the Canada national team and the tournament. He is a serious young talent and it is little wonder that United want to steal a march on their rivals by having a good look at him before other clubs.
