Liverpool to start bidding war with Arsenal for Lozano

|

Liverpool are set to start a bidding war with Arsenal for PSV Eindhoven winger Hirving Lozano, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper report that Arsenal were thought to be in pole position for the Mexican international, but Jurgen Klopp has now entered the race for the 22-year-old.

The Star claim that Wenger is looking to Lozano as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who is set to leave the club in the summer window.

It is said that Klopp is also eyeing up Lozano as a replacement, with Philippe Coutinho also looking likely to leave his club with Barcelona keen.

Lozano has an extraordinary scoring record for a winger, having netted 13 goals in 20 games this season since signing from Pachuca on a six-year contract in July.

Good move for Liverpool?

Lozano has developed into one of Europe’s hottest properties since his move to the Netherlands in the summer, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him grace the Premier League soon.

The 22-year-old already has 24 caps for Mexico, and his goalscoring record from the wing is simply sensational.

The report claims that Klopp is looking to Lozano as a replacement for Coutinho, but that is doubtful, with the two players very different in their playing styles.

That is not to say that Lozano would not be a good signing for the Reds, with the winger’s pace and goal threat a solid addition to any side.

Likely to happen?

Considering Lozano only just made his move to Europe in the summer, and on a six-year contract, a move in January would look unlikely, especially with a World Cup approaching.

Lozano may look to stay in Eindhoven for the moment, with success in the Netherlands coming easy for the 22-year-old.

However, a summer move into one of Europe’s top five leagues surely beckons for the pace machine, and Liverpool will have fierce competition for his signature.

The Reds will no doubt have financial might behind them though, especially if Coutinho completes his move to Barca, and that could see them come out on top in any bidding war for ‘Chucky’.
