Jordan Henderson has been omitted from the Liverpool starting XI for their Champions League showdown against Spartak Moscow – and many fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight.
The Merseysiders’ team for the pivotal European clash at Anfield features five changes from the team that demolished Brighton 5-1 on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Loris Karius, wide forward Sadio Mane and defenders Joe Gomez, Ragnar Klavan and Alberto Moreno are all recalled to what manager Jurgen Klopp might regard as his strongest XI.
The most notable omission is that of skipper Henderson, who drops down to the substitute’s bench for a game that Liverpool must draw to secure qualification for the Champions League knockout stages.
Many Liverpool fans took to social media en masse to react with glee at the axe for the club captain, although one chided his fellow supporters for a reaction that he labelled “embarrassing”.
