Forward Brooks Lennon has agreed to join Real Salt Lake from Liverpool, it was announced on Wednesday.

The MLS club announced on their official website and social media channels that Lennon has converted his loan move into a permanent deal.

Lennon has spent the 2017 MLS season on loan from the Merseyside giants and has made a big enough impression to re-join the club he left in 2015 to join Liverpool.

Aged 20, the versatile forward can play anywhere across the front line, scoring three goals and supplying two assists from 25 matches for the Utah-based club in 2017.

OPINION

This transfer has been on the cards since Lennon returned to the MLS at the start of this year. The three-times former USA Under-18 international is not up to the mark as potential Premier League calibre, but it is well within his capabilities to carve out a decent career in his native land. Mobile, technically good and with an eye for goal, Lennon’s statistics for 2017 are not indicative of his potential, or calibre. He has room for improvement, and that can be done at an MLS club where he can expect to play regularly. In all truth, he was never good enough to make it at a club of Liverpool’s standing.
