Rangers are working on a deal to sign Arsenal starlet Marcus McGuane after the 18-year-old was earmarked for a January loan, according to The Sun

The newspaper report that Arsene Wenger is keen for McGuane to gain some first-team action, and the Gunners are looking for a club where the midfield enforcer is guaranteed minutes.

The Sun claim that there are several clubs, from both the UK and abroad, who are interested in the England Under-19 international, including Italian giants Napoli.

It is said that Rangers have already made a pitch to McGuane’s advisors and they see Rangers as a club where he can thrive, while director of football Mark Allen is desperate to push through a deal.

Further talks are expected between the two clubs this week.

Good move for Rangers?

Rangers look like they will be pretty limited in their January transfer business, and loan deals such as this are looking the best option for them.

McGuane is extremely highly-rated at the Gunners, with the tough-tackling midfielder catching the eye of Arsene Wenger, who wants to get him some first-team experience.

And, while he is still an unknown commodity, McGuane could be a player who thrives once thrust into first-team football.

Likely to happen?

McGuane does look set for a January loan, and if this report is to be believed, then Rangers could be in the driving seat.

While Napoli are obviously a bigger draw, would there be any point in sending him away to Italy to only play a couple of games?

Rangers look like the sensible option, with guaranteed minutes in a league that carries similar demands to the Premier League.

And, with Mark Allen reportedly keen on the deal, then this looks like one that could come to fruition.
