Andrea Radrizzani has urged Leeds United fans to get behind Felix Wiedwald after a supporter begged him on Twitter to sign a new goalkeeper.

A Kemar Roofe hat-trick inspired the Yorkshire giants to a 3-1 Championship win against QPR at Loftus Road on Saturday to lift them to seventh in the table.

But one of the main talking points was the horrendous error by goalkeeper Wiedwald, who allowed Pawel Wszolek’s cross to bounce over him to narrow the deficit to 2-1 to give the hosts late hope.

Roofe subsequently kept his composure to complete his first hat-trick for the club but that did not stop one supporter messaging Leeds owner Radrizzani on Twitter and requesting a new keeper in the January transfer window.

The Italian businessman responded by pointing out on his personal account that Wiedwald made a “great save” when the score was 2-1 and said it is “time to support our players and be all together”.

OPINION

Radrizzani does not usually respond to fan transfer requests on Twitter. He is too sensible for that. But he is also aware that a torrent of criticism is coming the way of Leeds for making a total botch of the goalkeeper situation in the summer window, and wants to emphatically shut down talk that the January window will be used to rectify the situation. Leeds have to put their trust in Wiedwald after already dropping him once for Andy Lonergan, who fared little better. It is a situation they could have avoided had they not binned Robert Green, who was one of the outstanding players in the side in the second half of last season and still had much to offer the club.
