Luke Murphy will hold talks with Leeds United to see if the club want him when his loan spell at Burton expires.

The midfielder told BBC Radio Derby that he has “loved his time” at the Brewers and his future at Elland Road is in considerable doubt due to the vast changes at the club since he first went on loan.

Murphy, 28, is on a season-long loan at Burton after initially joining the club on a six month temporary deal for the second half of last season.

Speaking to BBC Radio Derby, via BBC journalist Adam Pope’s personal Twitter account, he said: “I’ve loved my time here (at Burton). I need to speak to people at Leeds and see if I am wanted there.

“There have been big changes there since I left & I probably only know a handful of faces.”

Murphy joined Leeds from Crewe Alexandra in 2013 and made 111 appearances for the club in all competitions.

But he slipped down the central midfield pecking order under ex-manager Garry Monk and was also deemed surplus to requirements when Thomas Christiansen took the reins in the summer.

OPINION

There appears little chance of Murphy being welcomed back into the Leeds fold after the club sanctioned consecutive loan spells at Burton, where he has established himself as a key figure. The 28-year-old has started 21 of a possible 22 Championship matches this season and has only missed one match as a result of his ineligibility when his parent club Leeds thrashed Burton 5-0 at Elland Road in September. Murphy is contracted to Leeds until the summer of 2019, and the likelihood is that a deal will be negotiated next summer for him to leave the club permanently. He is a solid operator, but not in the class of Ronaldo Vieira, Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips, the first choice central midfielders at Elland Road.
