Manchester United are lining up a mega bid to bring Tottenham defender Danny Rose to Old Trafford in January, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claims that Jose Mourinho’s side will try to sign the 27-year-old in January after he was omitted from Spurs’ squad on Saturday during their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.

It is understood that United are willing to pay £40million to snap up the left-sided flyer, while they could also offer their own defender Luke Shaw as a makeweight.

The report details that United are prepared to double Rose’s current £65,000-a-week wages and will be able to finance that by the sale of Shaw.

Good move for Spurs?

Spurs fans want players that are 100 per cent dedicated to the shirt and it appears that Rose may never get fully back on side after he publicly criticised the club’s transfer policy in the summer.

Pochettino does have Ben Davies in his team and if he managed to add Shaw too then he could be fairly happy with his left-back options.

Rose clearly is one of the best full-backs in the Premier League, but cashing in on an unhappy player seems like a good move.

Pochettino has helped transformed the England international into the player he is now and could certainly do the same for Shaw if he moved to north London.

Likely to happen?

This deal was given the clearest indication yet at the weekend that it could happen as Rose was not involved for the crunch game against Arsenal.

He has been transformed into a sensational defender that loves to bomb down the left flank and United appears to be the next logical step for him in his career.

Using Shaw as a makeweight in a deal is likely to interest Spurs and Pochettino has a track record of developing English talents.
