Tony Cascarino has destroyed Rangers for the weakness of their squad and picked out two first-team players for criticism in the process.

The ex-Celtic striker has picked out Kenny Miller and Josh Windass as just two examples of players at Ibrox that reflect their current situation.

Miller, 37, has scored four goals in 12 games this season and the centre-forward has come back into the side recently under caretaker manager Graeme Murty.

Meanwhile, left-winger Windass has been an ever-present in the Gers team this campaign and the 24-year-old has shown glimpses of his individual quality.

Sky pundit Cascarino was discussing how Rangers’ weakness has allowed Celtic to dominate Scottish football recently.

He feels that the Light Blues have too many weak players in their side and that they are a million miles away from their Old Firm rivals.

Rangers are currently fourth in the league table and six points adrift of leaders Celtic.

“Look at Rangers’ squad recently: they had two players from Accrington Stanley,” Cascarino wrote in the Times.

“Rangers are so weak it has enabled Celtic to do what they have done.

“When I look at the squads and I see the names, Kenny Miller playing at 53 or whatever he is, I see players who are playing League Two, League One football who go to Scotland to continue their career.

“Look at Josh Windass, a promising young player but he went from Accrington to Rangers. I could give you a load of players.”

OPINION

Cascarino’s criticism of two of Rangers’ better players in Miller and Windass may be a tad harsh, but in truth he is spot on that their squad is currently a million miles away from Celtic. Bruno Alves was a high-profile arrival at Ibrox in the summer and the type of player the club should be looking to sign, but he has only joined during the latter stages of his career. It may take some brave investment into the Gers to truly get them back competing again in the Scottish top flight as the current group of players are not good enough.
