Brendan Rodgers has delivered a worrying update after Celtic winger Patrick Roberts was forced off after just 11 minutes against Motherwell with a hamstring complaint.

Roberts missed two matches earlier in November after picking up a hamstring injury against Kilmarnock, and now seems to have aggravated that old injury against Well.

The young winger has been a revelation for Celtic under Rodgers but now looks set for another spell on the sidelines after the setback.

Roberts, a loanee from Manchester City, has now made 72 appearances for the Hoops, scoring 18 goals and providing 24 assists.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Rodgers said: “We’ll have to look at that and see where he’s at.

“It was the same hamstring so it’s probably not good news.”

It almost certainly rules Roberts out of Celtic’s clash against Motherwell on Saturday, the third time in seven days in which the two clubs are set to go head to head.

OPINION

Celtic fans will be hoping that this is just a small setback for the youngster. Roberts has become an exciting prospect at Celtic Park and offers them a brilliant option down the right. While the Hoops will no doubt manage without him, he is an exciting player to have at your disposal, either starting or off the bench. He hasn’t managed to hit the form he found last season yet due to his injury problems, but the quicker he gets back the faster he can return to terrorising defences for the Bhoys.
