Charlie Nicholas has predicted Celtic to suffer a heavy defeat when they travel to French giants Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

The Bhoys travel to France for a Champions League group stage match and are facing one of the favourites to win the entire competition.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are in pole position to finish third in their group and drop down to the Europa League, while PSG have already secured their place in the Champions League knockout rounds.

Celtic suffered a crushing 5-0 defeat at Parkhead back in September when they faced PSG and will be fearful ahead of the reverse fixture.

Unai Emery’s side have scored 17 goals without conceding during their four European games so far, while they are also top of Ligue 1 and sit unbeaten.

Sky Sports pundit Nicholas has tipped Celtic to set up defensively to try keep out PSG, but is still expecting them to lose by a 4-0 scoreline.

“It is going to be a painful watch for me but one I’ve anticipated since what happened in Glasgow,” Nicholas wrote in his column for Sky Sports.

“People are saying it could be a record margin, with PSG potentially winning 8-0 or 9-0, but Celtic are going to turn up and sit in rather than opening up again.”

OPINION

Celtic are a dominant force right now when it comes to domestic football, but this is where the step up in class really shows. The Scottish champions will be hoping to put up a good fight away to PSG and they know that most teams visiting the French capital this season will lose. However, Rodgers will be excited about putting his team against some of the world’s best and it will give them a chance to pull of a huge upset. The Bhoys still have the opportunity to have a successful campaign in Europe via the Europa League and should try to just enjoy the occasion against PSG.
