Celtic fans took to Twitter to criticise defender Dedryck Boyata for his performance following their team’s 2-0 Scottish League Cup final triumph against Motherwell at Hampden Park on Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers steered his side to their fourth consecutive domestic trophy to end a difficult week on a high after the Hoops’ midweek humiliation against Paris Saint-Germain.
Celtic overcame a poor first-half display to secure the win through second-half strikes from James Forrest and Moussa Dembele from the penalty spot.
However, it was not all sweetness and light as far as the Parkhead faithful were concerned and a section of fans were unimpressed with the performance of centre-back Boyata.
The Belgian has been ever-present for Celtic since returning from a knee injury in September but has had to deal with different partners at centre-back due to an injury crisis in that position.
The ex-Manchester City defender, who has made 14 appearances across all competitions, was partnered by Jozo Simunovic against Motherwell and there were some nerby moments despite the scorelines.
Many of the Hoops fans pointed out on Twitter that Boyata, 26, is a weak link who makes too many mistakes.

We miss Griffiths pace and tenacity. Roberts for Sinclair too. He's been dire… boyata scares me every time the ball comes near him.

If we keep a clean sheet the day I’ll be surprised. Boyata and Jozo are at it.

Boyata gives me the fear more than Ambrose ever did.
