Celtic fans react to Armstrong display v Motherwell

|

Celtic came from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw against Motherwell on Wednesday night – and fans took to Twitter to slate the performance of Stuart Armstrong.

The attacking midfielder was named in the Hoops starting XI for the second of three fixtures against the Scottish Premiership’s fifth-placed side in the space of seven days.

But Armstrong lasted only 73 minutes before he was replaced by Scott Sinclair with the score locked at 0-0.

Mikael Lustig’s own goal five minutes later threatened to end Celtic’s unbeaten domestic run before Sinclair took advantage of a controversial penalty decision by referee Willie Collum to convert the spot-kick and seal a 1-1 draw.

It was the closest Celtic have come to defeat since their last loss to Scottish opponents – against St Johnstone – back in May 2016.

But that did not prevent supporters criticising some of the underwhelming performances from the players at Parkhead, with fingers pointed on social media at playmaker Armstrong, who has struggled to match his performances of 2016-17 when Celtic strolled to the treble.
