Stuart Pearce is set to re-join West Ham as part of manager-in-waiting David Moyes’ new backroom staff, according to West Ham Way.

The Hammers news site clam that Moyes will be appointed the new boss in succession to Slaven Bilic and take his first training session at the club on Tuesday.

West Ham Way report that the 54-year-old Scot will sign an initial six-month contract that will include a two-year extension option dependent upon the team’s performances this season.

It is said that Moyes’ backroom team will be made up of Chris Wood, the only member of the coaching staff to survive Bilic’s sacking, and two new arrivals in Alan Irvine and Pearce.

The former England international spent two years at West Ham at the end of his glittering playing career that also included spells at Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Manchester City.

OPINION

Pearce has not enjoyed the same success as a coach that he had as a player, most notably as a teak-tough left-back for Forest and England. But the 55-year-old knows the English game inside out, has a track record of developing young players – including a six-year spell as England Under-21 boss – and will demand high standards of all those who come under his command. Some might regard his impending arrival as tokenism, given his West Ham links, but a shock place on Moyes’ backroom staff provides an opportunity for Pearce to reignite his dormant coaching career.
