Tottenham suffer injury double blow

|

Tottenham have confirmed that Hugo Lloris and Toby Alderweireld will not take part in their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Wembley on Sunday.

The key pair both suffered injuries in Spurs’ historic midweek win against Real Madrid.

Defender Alderweireld was substituted midway through the first half with a hamstring injury, while goalkeeper Lloris played through the pain barrier after rupturing his groin during the match.

Spurs confirmed on their official Twitter account on Friday afternoon that both players will be absent for the London derby against Palace, which kicks off at 12pm.

Tottenham will look to bounce back to winning ways in the league after losing 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend, while left them three points behind second place.

OPINION

Spurs have coped well with key absences such as Mousa Dembele, Danny Rose and Victor Wanyama this season, and will be hopeful their squad is strong enough to do the business against Palace without Alderweireld and Lloris. Both are key members of the starting XI and would be in most supporters’ picks if they had to name the team’s five most important players. The likelihood is that the impressive Eric Dier will drop back into central defence alongside Davison Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen, while the experienced Michel Vorm will take over in goal. Spurs’ defensive adjustments are often seamless, and that could be the case against the Premier League botttom club today.
