Tottenham fans are fuming that casual football fans are able to buy Wembley tickets at a cheaper price than season ticket holders, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim that the White Hart Lane faithful have “expressed unhappiness” that season ticket-holders are being penalised by the move to Wembley this season while their historic stadium is being rebuilt.

The Times report that Spurs are offering discounted tickets to casual supporters in order to fill the national stadium for matches that are considered less attractive than the marquee Premier League fixtures.

General sale tickets for category C matches at Wembley, such as Saturday’s visit of West Bromwich Albion, are available for as little as £20. By contrast, the price per game of the cheapest season ticket averages out at about £36.58.

Tottenham’s stance, as explained by the newspaper, is that the £20 seats are situated very high at the back of the stands so are priced accordingly, and that they were not sold as part of season-ticket packages because they are not released for every game, with the capacity at Wembley varying from match to match.

OPINION

Little wonder that the Tottenham hardcore are spitting feathers at cheap tickets being made available, and ending up in the hands of some who may just be Wembley day trippers rather than proper fans of the club. The general purpose of a season ticket is that you can rewarded for loyalty. Something has gone badly wrong if the hardcore lose out at the expense of drifting fans. There were bound to be difficulties during Spurs’ interim season at Wembley, and the club have handled most hurdles very well, but they have got this one badly wrong.
