Chris Sutton has raved about Tottenham striker Harry Kane and described him as an “all-round footballer”.

The 24-year-old is now regarded as one of the best centre-forwards in world football and has been in brilliant goalscoring form this season.

He was unavailable for England during the international break, but is set to return to action at the weekend for Spurs in the North London derby against Arsenal.

Kane has netted 13 times in 14 games across all competitions this campaign and it has been widely reported he has recovered from a knee injury in time for the Saturday.

Sutton believes that Kane is a brilliant striker and has stressed how important he will be for England on the international stage next year at the World Cup.

“Kane is an intelligent, all-round footballer who loves playing alongside pace,” Sutton wrote in the Daily Mail.

“He is superb at holding it, linking up and finding balls in behind for a pacy striker.

“Kane was always going to be a big part of England’s success at the World Cup — and his absence last night showed just how crucial he is to this team.”

England recorded two goalless draws against Germany and Brazil during the international break in friendly matches, highlighting how much of a talisman Kane is for the nation.

The in-form attacker is now a key man for both is club and country as he continues to improve every season.

OPINION

Kane is going to be under immense pressure next summer in Russia and the hopes of England rest largely on his shoulders. The forward has developed immensely since the last major competition in 2016 when England were dumped out by Iceland and Gareth Southgate is now the manager hoping to lift a nation’s hopes. Kane is certainly in line to start and could even become the full-time captain further down the line after being handed the role on several occasions. The prolific goalscorer has the potential to drag the Three Lions deep into the competition next summer if he is in good form and there are plenty of creative sparks behind him to assist, including Spurs teammate Dele Alli.
