Alan Shearer believes it will be very difficult for Tottenham to win the Premier League title this season due to the incredible start from Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side are currently flying at the top of the league table and have 31 points from their opening 11 games.

Man City are certainly the team to beat already this campaign and they have been destroying everything in their path so far.

Shearer feels that they could be on course for Guardiola’s first league crown in England, stating that it will be very difficult for closest challengers Manchester United and Spurs to catch them.

The chasing duo are eight points adrift of the leaders heading into the international break, while fourth-placed Chelsea are nine points off the early pacesetters.

“Of course the title race is not over. But can we really see this team [Man City] tailing off?” Shearer wrote in the Sun.

”They would have to lose three games at the very least. Right now, I cannot see them losing one.

“It does not make United or Tottenham bad teams. It is just City have seriously raised the bar.”

Man City eased to a 3-1 win over Arsenal at the weekend to continue their supremacy, but Spurs also picked up a pivotal three points.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side edged past Crystal Palace 1-0 at home courtesy of a Heung-Min Son strike and are currently third in the league, behind Man United on goal difference.

Shearer has insisted that Spurs are a decent team, but feels that leaders Man City are in another gear.

OPINION

Man City may be in flying form right now and the obvious favourite for the Premier League title, but there is still a long way to go and eight points is not an unassailable lead. Spurs have been the most consistent side over the past two years and should be able to keep the pressure on throughout the campaign. Pochettino’s side appear to be on the verge of something special with their talented squad and they all have experience of a title race. They should still be considered a major threat to Man City, who will undoubtably hit a dip at some point which could derail their title bid.
