Danny Rose has revealed he spends more time in Mauricio Pochettino’s office than any other player as he dismissed speculation that his relationship with the Tottenham manager has deteriorated.

The Spurs left-back criticised the club for a lack of signings during a summer interview and said they needed to bring in well-known players and “not ones you had to Google”.

This prompted speculation that Rose would be sold by Tottenham but the player subsequently gave an apology, which was accepted by manager Pochettino.

The 27-year-old has made three appearances for Tottenham since finally recovering from a knee ligament injury sustained at Sunderland in January.

Rose played his first full 90 minutes against Crystal Palace on Sunday and is back in the England squad that will face Germany and Brazil over the next week.

“Me and the gaffer are fine; we speak most days,” Rose said in an joint interview with talkSPORT and BBC Five Live, as quoted by the BBC Sport website.

“Over the last three years, the lads will tell you that I am the one in his office the most, speaking to him and going through videos and sharing text messages, even going round to his house.

“I thought him putting me on against Real Madrid, even though it was only for 10 minutes, was a class act on his part, making me feel part of it again, even though he didn’t need to bring me on.

“As far as I’m concerned, me and the gaffer are great, As long as we’ve both got the same goals, which is to win a trophy for Tottenham, then there’s nothing to worry about.”

OPINION

If Rose’s intention was to pour cold water on the possibility of a transfer to Manchester United, then he has done a reasonable job with a forthright and brilliantly insightful interview about his injury torment and relationship with Pochettino. The defender is clearly a no-nonsense character and also a dedicated professional who wants regular feedback from his manager about his performances and role in the team. Spurs fans will be encouraged that he has been close to the manager for the last three years, but will that change over the coming weeks if he gets the sniff that a move to Old Trafford could become a reality.
