Gary Neville believes that the two Manchester clubs will battle it out for the Premier League title this season and has dismissed Tottenham’s chances of being involved in the race.

Man City are currently at the summit of the league table after accumulating 37 points from their opening 13 games, with a draw to Everton their only points dropped so far.

Man United are the closest challengers some eight points adrift of them, while Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool are all further behind.

Pep Guardiola’s Man City side certainly look the team to beat this campaign and their top-six rivals are all desperate to try chase them down.

Neville is adamant that the two Manchester giants will be contesting the Premier League crown this season and doesn’t envisage Spurs being in the picture.

“At this moment in time, it is United who are closest to Man City but I don’t think Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal or Chelsea are right this season,” he said on the Gary Neville podcast.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino publicly admitted that his side are near enough out of the title race after a 1-1 draw to West Brom at the weekend.

The north London club have been the most consistent side over the past two years, but are still just struggling to get over the line in terms of silverware.

OPINION

Spurs are now down to fifth in the Premier League table and the 13-point gap to Man City already looks too much at this early stage of the season. Pochettino’s side have been let down by their form at temporary home Wembley and the draw against West Brom was a glaring example of that. They now need to focus on ensuring they secure a spot in the top four of the league as the title appears to be beyond them. Man City won again on Sunday to continue their incredible start to the campaign and at this rate it will be impossible for any team to catch them.
