Hoddle raves about Son display v Dortmund

Glenn Hoddle has raved about the quality of Tottenham attacker Heung-Min Son after he helped his side beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stages.

Spurs recorded a 2-1 away victory on Tuesday night on the European stage and that result guaranteed their position at the top of their group.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had put the German club in front in the first-half, but prolific goalscorer Harry Kane drew level shortly into the second period.

Son then scored the winner in emphatic fashion as he curled an effort into the top corner.

The 25-year-old has now scored four goals across all competitions this season and made the most of a rare 90 minutes on the pitch.

He has found himself in and out of Mauricio Pochettino’s team so far this campaign, but continues to be a vital asset of the squad by scoring some important goals.

Hoddle has praised Son for his influence against Dortmund in mid-week and named him as the standout player in the first-half when Spurs were struggling.

“He put in a wonderful performance and really worked hard,” Hoddle told BT Sport’s coverage of Dortmund v Spurs.

“First-half when Spurs weren’t at their best he was the one that gave you a little bit of hope.

“He gives Kane a little bit more space and a bit more time because he is prepared to run in behind.”

OPINION

Son is arguably one of the most underrated players in the Premier League and he would be the star name at most other clubs in the division. The versatile attacker is so useful to Pochettino because he can be effective when played in either wide or central positions. He has proven his shooting is clinical and his tally of 21 goals last season when somewhat unnoticed. Spurs find it difficult to fit all of their attacking talents into a starting XI, but there is no doubt that Son is a crucial part of team. The South Korea International needs to keep impressing whenever he gets the chance and make it impossible for Pochettino to drop him.
