Olivier Giroud could miss the north London derby next weekend after picking up a thigh strain in France’s win over Wales on Saturday night.

French newspaper L’Equipe claim that the Arsenal striker felt pain in his thigh during the warm-up but decided to play anyway and scored the second of France’s goals in their 2-0 triumph.

However, the 31-year-old was replaced by club team-mate Alexandre Lacazette just two minutes after his strike and has now withdrawn from the France squad ahead of their friendly against world champions Germany on Tuesday night.

The Gunners medical staff will run tests to find out the severity of Giroud’s injury but he is a huge doubt for the home clash against Tottenham on Saturday.

The 31-year-old was spotted with heavy bandaging wrapped around his thigh and was also applying an icepack to his leg after being substituted.

OPINION

Giroud has lost his regular starting spot to summer signing Lacazette but he remains a key man for club and country. He spearheaded a brilliant France attack that also include Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann on Friday night and has appeared in 10 of Arsenal’s 11 Premier League matches this season. Spurs will be delighted if the aerial colossus, who has scored 101 goals in 244 games for the Gunners, is unable to take any part in the Emirates Stadium showdown. He is a clinical finisher, holds the ball up well and is excellent in the air.
