Everton may consider recalling midfielder Liam Walsh from his loan spell at Birmingham in January, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims in its print edition (Page 61, 12 November) that the Toffees will evaluate the 20-year-old’s situation in the New Year.

It is understood that the Merseyside club may bring him back to Goodison Park or consider finding him an alternative loan move to Birmingham.

Walsh has rarely got a look in for the Championship outfit since he secured a loan move in the summer and has made just three senior appearances.

The report details that Everton’s caretaker managed David Unsworth is keen to “rescue” the central midfielder from his nightmare at Birmingham and is a big fan after working with him at youth levels before.

Good move for Everton?

Cutting Walsh’s loan move at Birmingham seems like a good move, especially if his omission from their squad continues in the next two months.

The youngster is a highly-rated midfielder that has captained Everton at Under-23s level and was sent out to experience first-team experience.

He featured in the opening three games of the Championship season, but has not been involved in the squad since.

Walsh is a technically gifted player and Everton have prove they can produce some great young talents, with Tom Davies the latest making a big impression at senior level for them.

It may be worth a loan spell to a League One club for the second half of the season to improve his development and he is one that fans should be excited about.

Likely to happen?

If Unsworth is given the Everton job until the end of the season then these are the types of positive things he will oversee.

He clearly has a big priority on the young players after managing the Under-23s side for the Toffees and is well aware of the huge potential of Walsh.

Everton are set to check on the progress of the English youngster in January and it would be no surprise to see him switch loan clubs.
