Lee Dixon believes that Tottenham can go “very close” this season in the Premier League title race and be a real challenge to current leaders Manchester City.

Spurs have developed into a top side in the past three seasons under Mauricio Pochettino and they have been firmly in the race for the Premier League title.

However, the North London club are still searching for silverware and will be hoping this campaign they can get over the line.

Spurs are third in the league table during the international break and behind Manchester United on goal difference, but the pair are eight points adrift of early pace setters Man City.

Pep Guardiola’s side are undefeated so far this season and won 10 of their opening 11 matches.
Arsenal legend Dixon has raved about the quality of the current Spurs squad and believes they can give Man City a genuine title race.

“They’ve [Spurs] got an energy and a drive and a determination and desire that I’d say is second to none in the league, so they’re up there with the best teams and it’s just a matter of time before they go on and challenge – seriously, they have done for the last few years but seriously – for the league title,” Dixon said, as quoted by ITV News.

“Manchester City are seemingly running away with it at the moment, but I believe they’ll go very close.”

OPINION

Spurs have been the most consistent team in the last two years and there is no reason why they can’t once again push for the top-flight crown. However, it seems highly unlikely that anyone can realistically challenge Man City based on their current form and their sensational success in front of goal. Spurs still do have to play them home and away this season, with a potentially huge clash in December. The likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli need to start bringing silverware to North London, but the Premier League title may once again be just beyond their clutches.
