Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck is reportedly back in contention to face Tottenham in the North London derby this weekend.

The Evening Standard claims that 26-year-old has returned to full training after recovering from a hamstring injury.

The newspaper reports that the former Manchester United man has progressed well in the sessions and he could potentially feature as the Gunners welcome Mauricio Pochettino’s side to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Welbeck has been a long-term absentee for Arsenal this season, having not featured for the team since the 2-1 Premier League defeat at the hands of Watford last month.

Before then, the England international had enjoyed a fine start to the campaign, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the process.

This will be worrying news for Spurs as Welbeck has a decent record against them, scoring twice and providing four assists in 11 appearances.

Tottenham are looking to extend their fantastic record against their bitter rivals as they have not lost to Arsenal at the Emirates since the 2013-14 season.

OPINION

Given the fact that Aaron Ramsey is a major doubt alongside teammate Olivier Giroud, the Gunners will be delighted that there is some positive news on the fitness front ahead of the North London derby. Although Welbeck has been criticised for his lack of clinical finishing in the past, he certainly adds pace to this Arsenal team and he will certainly cause problems for the Spurs back-line. Tottenham have been solid defensively this season and they’ll be the team bouncing into this game with the most confidence. Players such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli have been rested during the international break which means that Tottenham should be a full strength for this huge clash on the weekend.
