Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to react with scepticism and delight to a report that financier Amanda Staveley is set to complete a takeover of the club this week.
The Daily Star claim that Staveley’s company PCP Capital Partners are expected to buy the North East giants in the coming days in what would be a stunning move ahead of schedule.
It is said that the change of ownership is set to be announced within the next week after a deal was agreed with current owner Mike Ashley.
The report details that Staveley has been keen to wrap up a deal in order to design a transfer strategy in January for manager Rafael Benitez, with Luke Shaw, Ross Barkley and Andy Carroll three of the targets that have been discussed.
The news has been welcomed by Newcastle fans, who have long campaigned for Ashley to sell up to a more ambitious owner who is willing to pump money into the club rather than merely settle for Premier League status.
However, the Toon faithful are sceptical at the latest development, claiming they will temper their excitement until there are more signals that a deal is close.
