Paul Merson has predicted Everton to beat West Ham on Wednesday night in a crucial Premier League clash.

The duo are both massively under performing this season and have parted ways with their managers.

Everton’s caretaker boss David Unsworth saw his side get annihilated 4-1 by Southampton at the weekend and his side are 16th in the Premier League table.

The Toffees are in desperate need of a few victories to restore confidence at Goodiosn Park and also need a new full-time managerial appointment sharply.

Meanwhile, West Ham are 18th in the league standings and in the relegation zone after a dreadful start.

David Moyes has been tasked with dragging the Hammers away from the bottom three, but has just one point from his opening two games in charge of the club.

Sky Sports pundit Merson feels that Everton will run out winners in this crunch fixture, which would leave West Ham in dire straits.

“I am going to go with home advantage here, 2-0 to Everton, as if they cannot get themselves up for this game at home, they need to start panicking,” he wrote in his column for Sky Sports.

“This is a big match and they need to give more than they did against Southampton and bar a worldy goal by Gylfi Sigurdsson, it was not much.

OPINION

Both these teams will realise the importance of the clash on Wednesday and a win for either side could be the springboard to help them shoot up the Premier League table. A defeat will seriously damage the morale of either side and at this stage it is difficult to separate them. Everton should have a slight advantage when playing at Goodison Park, but they were humbled their recently in the Europa League by Atalanta. Unsworth has proven he is out of his depth managing at senior level during his temporary spell in charge and the sooner the change the better. Meanwhile, West Ham may picked up a point against Leicester last Friday in the league, but need to start picking up wins to help them steer away from relegation.
