Newcastle submit bid for Tosun

|

Newcastle United have launched a major bid to sign striker Cenk Tosun from Turkish club Besiktas, according to DHA.

The Turkish publication claims that the Magpies have submitted an £8.9million offer plus Aleksandar Mitrovic in a player-plus-cash deal.

It is understood that Premier League side Crystal Palace have also made an offer in the region of £10.7million for the 26-year-old.

Mitrovic has been on the fringes of the squad at St James’ Park so far this season and made just five appearances for Rafael Benitez’ side.

Tosun has been in dazzling form for Besiktas and scored 10 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions this term, including netting four times in the Champions League group stages.

Good move for Newcastle?

Tosun is a deadly striker that is currently doing the business in Turkey and also making an impact on the European stage.

The Turkey international would be a great addition to the Newcastle squad with his pace, power and eye for goal making him a well balanced centre-forward.

Newcastle are also in desperate need of a new clinical striker as both Joselu and Dwight Gayle have failed to find top form.

However, throwing in Mitrovic as part of a £9million deal too seems like far too much and the Serbian is still a top player despite his current lack of game time.

Likely to happen?

It appears unlikely that Besiktas would be willing to lose their talisman in attack, especially given his form in the Champions League.

Mitrovic’s future at Newcastle appears to be coming to an end after falling out of favour under Benitez, but whether he will leave as part of this deal remains unclear.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with their pursuit of Tosun and appear desperate to secure his signature.
