Everton hold face-to-face talks with Allardyce

|

Sam Allardyce is reportedly in pole position to become the next Everton manager.

The Daily Mail claims that the former England boss held face-to-face discussions with Everton’s major shareholder Farhad Moshiri in London this past week.

The newspaper reports that Allardyce is looking to bring former Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare as part of his backroom staff, alongside goalkeeper coach Martyn Margetson.

Good move for Everton?

In terms of a short-term appointment, Allardyce would be a great candidate to help the Toffees go back to basics and climb up the Premier League table.

The 63-year-old has vast experience in the top-flight and although he has recently garnered a reputation for saving clubs from relegation, he must also be credited for his superb work with Bolton Wanderers where he led them to European football.

During his managerial spell, Allardyce has managed to pick up the Premier League manager of the month award on six different occasions – only five managers have won it more than him.

One problem with regards to Allardyce is his style of football and this could potentially cause a rift between himself and the Everton supporters in the long-term, as it did during his tenure at West Ham United.

However, the Merseyside club are in no position to solely concentrate on style as they need to start picking up results as soon as possible.

Although they secured an incredible victory over Watford on the weekend, it still does not hide from the fact there are still issues that need to be resolved in the squad.

After his controversial dismissal from the national team, Allardyce will be desperate to demonstrate that he can manage one of the biggest clubs in the country which will only be a positive for Everton.

Likely to happen?

With the report claiming that both parties have already held talks, it almost seems inevitable that Allardyce will become the next manager at Goodison Park.

However, the situation might change in the upcoming days with West Ham sacking Slaven Bilic who might be considered as a possible candidate.

Caretaker manager David Unsworth appears to be popular amongst the players themselves but it doesn’t appear that he has done enough to convince the Everton hierarchy.
