Boxer and Everton fan Tony Bellew believes that Diego Simeone would be a “dream appointment” at Goodison Park after repots emerged the Merseyside club are keen on him.

Sky Sports correspondent Kaveh Solhekol has reported that the Toffees have four candidates in mind to become Ronald Koeman’s successor.

It is understood that owner Farhad Moshiri wants current Atletico Madrid boss Simeone to ditch the top-flight Spanish giants and move to the Premier League.

The report details that Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva and current Everton caretaker boss David Unsworth are considered to be more realistic targets.

Bellew has stated that Simeone would be the ideal man to take the reigns at his boyhood club, but doubts that it will ever happen.

“Said from day one he’s the dream appointment. Sadly dreams VERY RARELY come true,” Bellew wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Simeone is regarded as one of the best managers in world football, but that has not stopped the Everton owner dreaming high.

The 47-year-old has been in charge of the Spanish outfit since 2011 and become a very popular figure in Madrid.

He helped his side win the La Liga title in the 2013/14 campaign and also finished runners-up twice in the Champions League.

OPINION

Everton know that it would take a miracle to prize Simeone away from Atletico and the club need to instead focus on pointing their new manager as soon as possible. The Toffees play away to Crystal Palace in their next match after the international break and it is imperative a new man has time to get settled before them. Simeone is someone that Premier League audiences could see later down the line and Arsenal have been frequently linked with him in the past. He is a top quality manager that is likely to take one of the biggest jobs around if he ever moves to England.
