Everton agree Allardyce deal – Sky

Everton have agreed a deal to make Sam Allardyce their new manager but they will need to pay £2million in compensation to his former club Crystal Palace, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their website that the Merseysiders have a deal in place with Allardyce and he will be appointed on Wednesday afternoon before their Premier League clash against West Ham.

Sky Sports report that Allardyce, 63, has agreed terms with Everton after re-opening negotiations to succeed Ronald Koeman on Monday.

It is said that the sticking point over the length of contract handed to the ex-England manager has been resolved, although Everton must pay a compensation fee of £2million to Palace.

Palace chairman Steve Parish stipulated when Allardyce quit in May that the south London club would receive this sum if he were to take a new job before next summer.

OPINION

Full marks to Parish for the clause that hands Palace a nice little windfall from Everton, who have put Premier League safety before any notion of the beautiful game or pretty football. With Allardyce, you know what you’re getting. A well-drilled defence, organisation and a cast-iron guarantee that the Merseysiders will be dining at English football’s top table next season. Smart move? Yes. Ambitious or long-term? Certainly not. Don’t expect Big Sam to be at the helm next season, whatever his contract states.
