Aston Villa captain John Terry has revealed an image of his nasty-looking injury on social media that is set to keep him on the sidelines for a significant spell.

The Birmingham Mail report that the 36-year-old defender is set to be unavailable for the rest of the year after fracturing his with metatarsal in his right foot.

He suffered the injury setback in the Sheffield Wednesday clash before the international break and has started every league encounter so far.

However, Steve Bruce will be forced to find a new combination at centre-back as his side look to kick on with their promotion bid.

Terry posted a picture on his personal Instagram account of his injury woe that could leave a huge gap in the team.

Villa will hope to cope without the key centre-back and are still sixth-placed in the league table inside the play-off positions.

The Midlands giants travel to QPR on Saturday in their next game, where Chris Samba and James Chester are likely to form the combination in the heart of defence.

OPINION

Terry’s influence on the Villa team can’t be underestimated and he has made a huge difference since he arrived in the summer for Chelsea. The fans will be devastated not to have the commanding centre-back involved over the next two months as he was in red-hot form and helping the team grind out results. However, he can still have a big say in the dressing room and many of the less experienced players will still look to the skipper. Chester and Samba will now need to take over the mantle piece of continuing Villa’s good work at the back, while they will receive a lot of help from goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
