Newcastle United should consider battling their North-East rivals Sunderland to sign Liverpool attacker Ben Woodburn.

The Echo reports that new Sunderland boss Chris Coleman is keen to see if the 18-year-old is available for a loan move in January.

There is not yet a clear indication the the Wales international would be allowed to leave Anfield in the New Year, but the Magpies should go all out to try secure a deal.

Rafael Benitez must tap into his resources at former club Liverpool to try land Woodburn on loan, who would surely benefit much more from a stint in the Premier League rather than Championship club Sunderland.

Woodburn is a rising star on Merseyside and is being tipped for greatness, but has just one senior appearance so far this campaign.

The dazzling left-winger has so much potential and could be a real goal threat in the Premier League if given a regular run of games.

He has made a seamless step up to international level with Wales during his six caps and there is every change he could excel at St James’ Park.

The teenager could be just what Rafael Benitez’s side are missing as they currently lack goals in the final third.

Newcastle need to find goals from all over the pitch and the Liverpool youngster could certainly chip in with a few from wide areas.

Woodburn has a growing reputation for being a great dribbler with bag of ability and he also has great awareness for someone of his age.

The winger could develop into a top player if given a short-term spell away from Liverpool and Newcastle could definitely be the perfect platform to help him develop.

Meanwhile, the Magpies need a few special talents in their side to bring an exciting style of play back to the club.
