Leeds United are planning to make a host of new signings from the UK as they continue their recruitment drive outside of the transfer window, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The regional newspaper claim that the Championship giants are ready to follow up the signing of Ryan Edmondson from non-league York City last week with a series of other captures.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that United intend to source top young talent from the UK and “closer to home in Yorkshire”.

It is said that the club are keen to sign local academy recruits as part of a wider transfer strategy aimed at strengthening beyond just the first team managed by Thomas Christiansen.

The Championship giants announced on their official website last week that they had signed Edmondson, a 16-year-old powerhouse striker who already stands at around 6ft 5in.

Edmonson, who has spent the last two years in City’s academy, has signed a three-year scholarship contract with his boyhood club Leeds that runs until 2020.

OPINION

The overhaul of Leeds continues at a dizzying pace, and supporters can expect there to be no let-up as the Andrea Radrizzani revolution is stepped up in the coming months. Fans will be delighted that the Yorkshire giants are keen to snare not just top European talent, but also the best prospects on their doorstep, both in Yorkshire and further afield in the UK. The focus on both the present and the future is part of a strategy of growth aimed at making Leeds an established Premier League club in the next five years. Supporters might want big signings here and now, but a policy of recruiting the best home-grown talent is a sensible one, and could reap enormous dividends.
