Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane has revealed that he is “more than prepared” to commit his long-term future to the club.

The 27-year-old secured a permanent deal to Elland Road at the start of last season from Premier League side Bournemouth and he went on to make a total of 26 appearances.

After just one full campaign at the club, the midfielder decided to put pen to paper on a brand new four year deal in August.

O’Kane has continued to be an important member of the Leeds first-team, only missing one Championship match this season and contributing with three assists in the process.

His recent performances have seen receive a call-up to the Republic of Ireland national team who will take on Denmark in a World Cup playoff on Saturday evening, and O’Kane will be hopeful that he can feature in the match.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the midfielder hinted that he might look to extend his stay even further at Leeds in the near-future.

“But of course I was more than happy to commit my future here and I hope that after the current contract that I have signed I still have a few more years left in me,” he said.

“It’s not even anywhere near the time to be talking about it but I love the place, I love the city, my wife is happy here, she enjoys it and we are in the process of buying a house.

“I’m more than prepared to put some roots down here and settle for a while.”

OPINION

Although O’Kane hasn’t categorically confirmed that he intends to spend the rest of his footballing career at Elland Road, the signs indicate that he is enjoying life both on and off the pitch. Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen appears to be a huge fan of the midfielder who is enjoying a lot more minutes on the field than he managed last season. The Leeds supporters will be delighted to hear that O’Kane is hinting at a long-term stay and his decision might be made easier if they manage to secure promotion to the Premier League this season. The midfielder, along with teammates, will be hopeful that the international break has arrived at a good time as the Whites have suffered three consecutive defeats in the Championship.
