England fans have taken to Twitter to criticise Tottenham’s Eric Dier for his performance in their World Cup qualifier win against Slovenia.
Dier played the full 90 minutes for Gareth Southgate’s side as they laboured to a 1-0 win that was secured courtesy of a stoppage-time goal from his Spurs teammate Harry Kane.
Dier, 23, has established himself as a regular in the England side and slotted into his favourite midfield position at Wembley alongside Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson.
But England fans were unimpressed with the display of the Spurs anchorman as the home side struggled to gel or consistently threaten the opposition goal.
Supporters took to social media afterwards to lay into Dier, with many claiming he is symptomatic of the mediocrity that pervades the Three Lions, and that he is less effective for his country than he is for his club.
