Tottenham are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven’s wonderkid Steven Bergwijn, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that Spurs are long-term admirers of the 20-year-old and are currently tracking him.

It is understood that Premier League rivals West Ham and Bournemouth are also in the race for the attacker as they monitor the rising star.

Bergwijn is recognised as one of the best upcoming talents in Dutch football and is expected to represent Holland at senior level.

The pacy winger has been nominated for the 2017 Golden Boy award and is included on a 25-man shortlist alongside recognised names such as Marcus Rashford, Kylian Mbappe and Gabriel Jesus.

The annual prize is run by Italian newspaper Tuttosport and decided by a panel of 30 journalists, with previous winners including the likes of Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney, Cesc Fabregas and Paul Pogba.

Good move for Spurs?

Bergwijn is clearly a big talent emerging in the Dutch Eredivisie and has managed to break into the PSV first team in the past 12 months.

The electric winger, who can be deployed on both flanks, has already made nine senior appearances this season.

He has chipped in with two goals and three assists so far and is a real threat in the final third.

Bergwijn would be an excellent signing for Spurs and would stick to the mould of integrating young stars into their team.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are also lacking genuine wide players in their team and the rapid Bergwijn would bring a different dimension to their squad.

Likely to happen?

This deal still appears a long way off and the fact that Bergwijn is under contract with PSV until 2021 could be a major stumbling block.

Spurs’ long-term interest shows that they have done their research on the attacker and feel he could make an influence in England.

However, there would also be the added competition of Premier League rivals if Bergwijn was made available and there would be a real scrap on for his signature.
